Joan Lane

JOAN LANE has worked in arts management and production for over 25 years, arranging choral tours, producing and directing concerts and operas. Since 1998 she has toured accessible and innovative productions of Shakespeare’s plays from her own company (Wild Thyme). Starting out as choral music coordinator (for English National Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker) she has produced concerts at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, St. John’s Smith Square and St. James’s Piccadilly. She was production coordinator for BBC Radio 3’s first fully-staged Promenade Concert/Opera at the Royal Albert Hall in 1990 (Britten’s Noye’s Fludde), production coordinator for that same opera for Crusaid’s Music for Life day at the Royal Festival Hall in 1992 and its producer in St. George’s Chapel Windsor for the 1994 Windsor Festival.

Joan was a music scholar, but went on to train as a Speech and Language Therapist. Apart from mounting plays and musicals with Wild Thyme, she also works on a freelance basis as a vocal consultant. She is one of two Consultants to the steering committee of Musical Theatre Matters( MTM:UK) www.musicaltheatrematters.co.uk concerned with the writing and production of new musicals, and a member of the British Shakespeare Association. She has worked with Michael Nyman on background music for the film The Actors; coordinated the participation of singing “Angels” for Stephen Fry’s directorial film debut Bright Young Things; and although primarily engaged as a consultant, her casting and coordination skills were put to use by the BBC in 2004 for the recording, filming and Royal Opera House performance of a new opera The Little Prince - and again in 2007 for the BBC Promenade Opera/Concert The Water Diviner’s Tale. She was also a director for BBC Radio Two and BBC Television’s New Talent UK-wide search for the Voice of Musical Theatre 2006, recorded and televised in October 2006.
